Local Council Elections: Register to vote

On 4 May, the people of Scotland go to the polls to elect their local council. 16 and 17 year olds can vote in these elections for the first time.

To be able to vote in the Scottish council elections, you need to be registered. Registering is quick and easy. You need your National Insurance number, date of birth and address.

The deadline for registering to vote is Monday 17 April. When you’re registered, you can vote either in person at a polling station on 4 May, or by post or proxy.
